Baikonur is a cosmodrome located on the territory of the Karmakshy district of the Kyzylorda region. Founded in 1955. When choosing a site for the construction of the Baikonur Cosmodrome, one should proceed from the remoteness from populated areas, proximity to the equator, the safety of rocket launches, the availability of suitable landing sites for returning space objects, etc. The main and auxiliary facilities and structures of Baikonur are located on a vast territory that are connected between roads and railways. Baikonur's main facilities include: technical sites, launch complexes and measuring stations along the runway (each of which is a large structure with general mechanical and special technological equipment).
