Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport is an international airport located in Astana. The airport is located 14 km from the center of the capital. Serving 4.3 million passengers in 2017, it is the second busiest airport in Kazakhstan after the airport of the former capital Almaty. It has local and international terminals.
History
The history of the airport dates back to 1931, when the first airfield in the city was opened. In 2005, the airport buildings were replaced with a new building to meet international airport standards. The airport is a so-called “Quiet Airport". There are no ads, but all ads are displayed only on monitors. The airport is one of two hubs of the national airline of Kazakhstan Air Astana, which operates flights to 14 national destinations, including Almaty, Karaganda, as well as to several cities in Europe and Asia. The main destination departing from Astana airport is the city of Almaty (the southern capital), which performs 135 flights per week.
