Kastek is a medieval city of the 7th century, located on a high hill in a very picturesque area surrounded by low mountains. The settlement is the ruins of an ancient city; at the moment, archaeological work is periodically taking place on this city, and research is being conducted. The Kastek settlement is located on the left bank of the Kastek River, at the foot of the Suik-Tope Mountain, 4 kilometers from the village of Kastek, 12 kilometers from the village of Karakastek, Zhambyl district, Almaty region, Republic of Kazakhstan.

The city of Kastek is surrounded on three sides (north, south and west) and the central part of the city by a ditch, and the eastern part continues to the slope on the river side, the ditch has a width of 5-20 meters, a depth of 1-2 meters. During excavations at the site, the walls of a destroyed building were discovered; fragments of glassware can also be found near the city; the found glass fragments are blue in color. It can be seen that most of the materials found during the excavations were made of ceramics, while at the same time among them there are products made of iron, bone and stone. Pots, jugs, and glasses made from clay by firing in a kiln were found here. It seems that the inhabitants of the city were engaged in agriculture and gardening, as evidenced by a metal ploughshare (plough) and a hoe found near the monument. Fragments of glass vessels date back to the 9th-10th centuries. It was established that glass production was local. There are also bone objects, among them a bone toothbrush and a hair clip, the bone is very hard and polished. From weapons on the territory of the Kastek settlement, iron arrowheads, spearheads were found, from household items, metal objects were found such as knives, scissors, forged cast-iron dishes, handle brackets, locks, horse bridles, various types of harness, which indicates the knowledge of people in field of metallurgy. The city of Kastek was a major economic and political cultural center.
