Travel from Almaty to Karabutak village -
Karabutak is a picturesque village in the desert area of Kazakhstan on the banks of the Irgiz River, 70 kilometers from the Russian border. The land of Karabutak is a vast gray steppe with very rich, watery, dry and salty lakes. The population of the village in 2009 was 2,600 people. The village is located at the beginning of the A22 motorway, an east-west route from Karabutak to Kostanay. The A22 motorway connects the M32 motorway in Karabutak with the M36 motorway in Kostanay and is the only road between western and northern Kazakhstan. The climate here is continental. The average temperature in January is -11 – -13 °C, in July +22 – +24 °C. The average annual precipitation is 350-400 mm, the main amount of which corresponds to the periods March-May and November-December. The wind rose is dominated by northeastern (34%) and northern (16%) winds. Stable snow cover is formed in the last decade of November and ends in the second decade of March.
