One-day hiking in the Small Almaty gorge -
Lake No. 6 M. Mametova is a beautiful high-mountain moraine lake, located at an altitude of 3555 meters above sea level in the upper reaches of the Small Almaty gorge. The lake is small, but very beautiful, the water in the lake is amber-turquoise, the water in the lake always changes its color and shine depending on the lighting and time of year. The lake is named after the hero of the Great Patriotic War, a woman soldier-machine gunner Mametova Manshuk Zhiengalievna. Water enters the lake from the mountain glacier Manshuk Mametova, which is clearly visible from the lake. The hike to the lake starts from the high-mountain base Chimbulak, which can be reached by electric taxi, electric buses from the high-mountain sports complex and skating rink Medeo, or by the cable car Medeu-Chimbulak. The total length of the route in both directions is 18 kilometers (9-11 hours on the road).
From Shymbulak, you need to follow the gorge up the road along the Malaya Almatinka River to the high-mountain dam, where the Mynzhylki weather station is located in the Mynzhylki tract at an altitude of 3100 meters above sea level. Then you need to move towards the Alpingrad glade. Along the way, there are signs with directions and additional information. At Lake M. Mametova, you can rest, take photos or record a video for memory. Near the lake there is Amangeldy peak, Mametova peak, Pioneer peak, Gvardeytsev peak, Uchitel peak, Uchenik peak, Antikaynen peak. Also, various measuring equipment and water level sensors, etc. are installed on the lake.
