The lake is located in the East Kazakhstan region, in Kazakhstan. The Ulagansky district, in the Koktau Mountains, is part of the Sibinsky Lakes, and Shalkar is lake number three.

The lake is home to carp and pike, and you can also spot muskrats here. Ducks also inhabit the lake. The lake is a local landmark and a recreational spot for local and visiting tourists. Birch, aspen, and short grass grow around the lake. The lake is 1.2 kilometers long and lies at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level.

The lake is fed by groundwater and spring meltwater. It is surrounded by beautiful granite cliffs. The lake is similar to all the lakes that make up the Sibinsky Lakes. A small river connects the lake to Lake Korzhinkol. Thirty species of plants grow on the lake.
