The river Prokhodnaya is a picturesque mountain river that originates on the glaciers of the Zailiysky Alatau at an altitude of 3500 meters above sea level, is a tributary of the Bolshaya Almatinka River. The length of the river is 21 kilometers. The river flows through the Prokhodnoye gorge of the same name, the beginning of the route along the gorge along the Prokhodnaya River begins just below the Alma-Arasan resort. The Prokhodnoye gorge is narrow, so it is recommended to make mountain hikes here only when the snow melts and the slopes of the mountains are dry, in spring avalanches are possible here.

Prokhodnaya River - information for tourists -
The Prokhodnaya River is a landmark of the Ile-Alatau park; a mountain path runs along the river, along which you can climb to the upper reaches of the Prokhodnoye gorge along the river. The mountain trail crosses the river several times, mountain pedestrian bridges have been installed across the river for the convenience of crossing the river. Gorge Prohodnoe is narrow, we recommend mountain hiking here only in summer July, August when there is no snow here, in spring and early summer in June mountain avalanches are possible here. To travel along the Prohodnaya River, use the services of a mountain guide who knows the area well; we do not recommend hiking alone in the mountains of the Zailiysky Alatau.
