The Kurmenty River in the Kolsay Lakes National Park

Mountain hike from the village of Kurmeti along the Kurmenty River -

The best time to travel around Almaty region -

The Kurmenty River is a picturesque mountain river that flows through the territory of the Kolsay Lakes National Nature Park. It originates high in the mountains at an altitude of over 3,000 meters above sea level on the northern slope of the Kungey Alatau mountain range. The river is 22 kilometers long, next to the river is the village of Kurmety, which serves as a starting point to the Kurmenty mountain gorge along the river. From the source of the river to the village of Kurmeti (Kurmeti), the river is called Kurmenty, after which it is called Kurmekty. After the village, the river divides into several branches and flows into the Chilik (Shilik) River, being its right tributary. There is a mountain road along the river that will take you to the upper reaches of the gorge in a very picturesque and beautiful place. You can get here by 4x4 all-terrain vehicle, walk or ride a horse. This entire area is very popular because it is located next to such famous natural sites as the Kolsay Lakes and Lake Kaindy.
The Kurmenty River is not just part of the landscape. It dictates the rules, gives life and reminds: a person is only a guest here. When you stand on its bank under the crossfire of eagles circling over the canyon, you understand what real freedom is.
