Cherkassk village

Traveling through the villages of Zhetysu region -

Cherkassk Defense Memorial -

Cherkassk village in Zhetysu region is one of the oldest Cossack settlements in the southeast of Kazakhstan, founded in the 19th century by settlers from Cherkassy and other southern Russian provinces. It is located in a picturesque valley at the foot of the Dzungarian Alatau, among fertile lands and rivers, which made it a convenient place for living and farming. In the village there is a memorial complex dedicated to the Cherkassk defense and next to the village there is a museum of the history of the Sarkand district. Also, near the village flows the Lepsy River. The surrounding area is beautiful and diverse: on one side, mountain ranges with green meadows and coniferous groves rise, and on the other, steppe expanses and fertile fields stretch. The climate is continental - hot summers give way to frosty but sunny winters, which has always made the village a kind of agricultural center. Grain was grown here, gardening and livestock farming were carried out.

Memorial complex dedicated to the Cherkasy defense -

The memorial complex in the village of Cherkassk was erected in memory of the heroic Cherkasy defense of 1918-1919, when local peasants and Cossacks organized selfless resistance to the White Guard detachments during the Civil War. This is one of the most striking events in the history of Zhetysu, a symbol of the courage and unity of ordinary people who stood up to defend their land. The memorial is a majestic structure erected in 1973. The architectural composition is made in the form of three steles-pyramids directed upward, symbolizing fortitude, strength of spirit and unity of the people during the difficult years of the civil war. Geometric shapes made of metal create a feeling of severe power and steadfastness, reflecting the character of the defenders who stood in the way of the enemy. In the center of the complex there are memorial plaques with the names of the dead, which remind us of the price paid for freedom and peace on this earth. The space of the complex is open and wide, which enhances the feeling of solemnity and significance of the event. The combination of strict lines and the cold shine of metal gives the monument a special expressiveness - it looks modern even decades after its construction. This place has become not only a symbol of memory, but also a venue for patriotic events, where schoolchildren, historians and tourists come. Here everyone can touch history, feel the spirit of fortitude and pride in their ancestors.

Museum of History of Sarkand District -

The Museum of History of Sarkand District is located in the city of Sarkand and is an important cultural center of the region. Its exhibitions are dedicated to the centuries-old history of the region, from archaeological finds of the Bronze Age to the events of the 20th century. In the halls of the museum you can see artifacts associated with ancient nomads, ethnographic collections of Kazakh life, weapons, crafts and documents telling about the development of the region. Particular attention is paid to the period of the Great Patriotic War and the Cherkasy defense - here are collected materials about fellow countrymen soldiers, photographs, personal belongings of participants in the battles. The museum also presents an exhibition about the natural resources of Zhetysu: rare minerals, stuffed animals and herbariums of plants. This place helps to better understand the culture, traditions and character of the inhabitants of the region. The museum performs not only an educational function, but also preserves the living memory of the past, connecting generations and awakening interest in the native land.
