an ensemble with green alleys, fountains and cozy courtyards.

KazNAU is the main agricultural university in Kazakhstan, which trains specialists in a wide range of fields: agronomy, ecology, engineering, veterinary medicine, hydro-reclamation, biotechnology, agricultural economics and many others. The University actively cooperates with leading international organizations and scientific centers of the world, including the UN FAO, universities in Germany, Japan, South Korea, China and the USA.

Walking around its campus, you can feel the spirit of history mixed with the energy of youth and innovation. This is the place where the technologies of the future are born for the most ancient professions on Earth. This means that they not only teach, but also create new knowledge that will determine the future of the entire agriculture of Kazakhstan.

History

The history of KazNAIU (Kazakh National Agrarian University) begins in 1929, when the issue of developing agriculture and training specialists for steppe regions became acute in Kazakhstan. At that time, the Kazakh Agricultural Institute was founded in Alma Ata, the first agricultural university in the country. Its creation was an important step in the development of the scientific agricultural school of Kazakhstan.

During the Great Patriotic War, the institute did not stop working – students and teachers combined their studies with work in the rear, growing crops for the front. After the war, the university became the center of agricultural science, where new varieties of wheat, barley and corn, irrigation methods and soil protection were developed.

In the 1990s, the university went through a difficult period of perestroika, but managed to preserve its scientific potential and traditions. In 2001, it was awarded the status of a national university, and in 2010 – a research university. Today, KazNAU is one of the leading agricultural universities in Central Asia and is the mainstay of innovation in the agricultural sector of Kazakhstan.

Architecture

The main building of the university is a magnificent structure built in the spirit of Soviet monumentalism with elements of neoclassicism. It is decorated with massive columns, moldings and wide staircases leading to the entrance. There is bas–reliefs on the facade, symbolizing the work of farmers and scientists.

The university grounds are carefully maintained: flower beds are laid out in front of the main building, monuments to outstanding agrarians and professors have been erected, and inside the complex there are cozy courtyards where students relax between classes. You can feel the atmosphere of an ancient university here, where every corner keeps its own history.

There is a whole educational and scientific campus on the territory of KazNAIU, where there are laboratories, experimental fields, greenhouses, veterinary clinics and even their own farm plots where students hone practical skills. All this makes the university a unique space where theory and practice combine into a single whole.

The legend of the University

There is a beautiful legend among KazNAIU students and teachers about an ancient apple tree that grows in the courtyard of the university. According to legend, even before the foundation of the institute, there was an ancient apple orchard on this site, planted by travelers of the Great Silk Road. One of the apple trees, they say, was special – it did not die even after droughts and frosts, and people considered it a tree of knowledge and longevity.

When the construction of the institute began, the builders wanted to cut down the apple tree, but one old man asked them to leave it, saying: "Let it grow – it will bring wisdom to those who will study here." Since then, the tree has become a symbol of the university. Students come to him before exams to touch the bark and make a wish – they believe that it helps those who seek the truth and are not afraid of work.
