The Auezov Museum was opened on November 28, 1963, the museum was opened in the house where Mukhtar Auezov lived for the last 10 years. The museum conducts research work to summarize and promote the legacy of the great writer, a comprehensive understanding of his creative life and social activities, and searches in the field of literature. The museum exhibits are located in 11 halls. The life and work of the great Kazakh poet Abay Kunanbayev is one of the topical themes of the museum exposition, closely intertwined with the name of Auezov, being the main product of his scientific and literary searches.

The Mukhtar Auezov House-Museum in Almaty presents the first works of Abai, his publications in Kazakh, Russian and other languages of fraternal peoples and collections translated into the languages of the peoples of the world. The section dedicated to the epic "The Path of Abai" contains translations of works in Arabic, English, German, French, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Romanian, Polish, Bulgarian, Mongolian, Vietnamese, and presents the opinions and reflections of figures in world literature and art about the work of the poet-thinker. The section dedicated to the pedagogical and scientific activities of M. Auezov, the founder of Abai studies, has great scientific and educational significance in a comprehensive, in-depth study of the legacy of the great poet.
Particular attention in the section is given to the research works of Auezov, revealing the creative talent of Abai (a collection of monographic articles, special chapters of a textbook, etc.). Auezov is depicted as an outstanding teacher, a unique expert in Abai studies, an organizer of special courses in Abai studies and seminars on the study of the legacy of the great poet. In the section dedicated to the writing of the epic "The Path of Abai", the original photograph of Abai with his family, photographs of his children and Russian friends deported to the Semipalatinsk region are widely presented. The section "Auezov and theatrical art" presents Abai's play "Abai" in the drama theater, a composition from the epic novel "The Path of Abai", the feature film "Songs of Abai" and scenes on the opera stage.

Mukhtar Auezov is a kazakh writer, born into a nomadic family in the Semipalatinsk region of the Russian Empire, near the modern city of Semey. His grandfather taught him to read and write. From a young age, Mukhtar grew up under the influence of the works of the Kazakh writer Abai Kunanbayev. His father died in 1900, his mother twelve years later, leaving Mukhtar an orphan at the age of 15. He was then raised by his uncle, grandmother and grandfather. At first, he attended a village school, and from 1906, a madrasah in the city of Semipalatinsk. Just a year later, he was sent to a Russian school in Semipalatinsk. After graduating After graduating from high school, he first attended the Semey Pedagogical Institute and then transferred to the philological faculty of Leningrad State University in 1923. During this time, he studied Russian literature and other foreign classics. While still a student, he began writing short stories, poems, and articles, which were published. He initially became known for his plays. His first play was Enlik Kebek, a story about two lovers. He wrote the work on the occasion of the wedding of Abai's granddaughter. In the summer of 1917, he married 15-year-old Raichan, with whom he had a daughter the following year. A year later, he had a son, but he died in infancy. The marriage ended in divorce in 1920. In 1941, he returned to Kazakhstan, where he worked in various cultural institutions and published further works. In total, he wrote more than 20 plays, often dedicated to socialism in Kazakhstan. Auezov later focused on writing novels. Two novels – “Abai” and “The Path of Abai” – about the Kazakh writer Abai K. and were the result of the last 20 years of his life.
