Karaganda is a city in Central Kazakhstan, the center of the Karaganda region. The city is surrounded by steppes and coal deposits. The development of the city began in the 1930s, when coal deposits were discovered in the area, when many coal deposits were discovered, the city quickly turned into an industrial center of the Soviet Union. In 1833, a legend about the shepherd boy Appak Baizhanov, who found coal here, was preserved in the mouths of people. Many monuments of Karaganda may be of interest to tourists. Among them are the monument to Bukhar Zhyrau, the monument to Abylai Khan, and the monument to the classic of Kazakh literature, the great poet Abai Kunanbayev. Abai Kunanbayev is a great Kazakh poet, educator, founder of Kazakh written literature and literary language, was born in the Abai district of East Kazakhstan region (former Semipalatinsk district) (former Chingistau region) on Mount Chingiz. Abai comes from a well-known Tobykta family named Irgizbai. He studied with a village mullah from childhood. Later, he received a 3-year madrasah in Semipalatinsk.
