Mountain road from Lake Markakol to Lake Yazevoe

The road from Lake Markakol to Lake Yazevoe is a beautiful mountain road, this route is intended for jeeps with a cross-country ability (4x4) or higher (Ural, Kamaz 6x6). At first, the road passes through the mountainous terrain of the Markakol State Biosphere Reserve and then through mountain passes and mountain valleys smoothly turns into the Katon-Karagay National Biosphere Reserve. The road is open and accessible only in the summer months of June, July, August, but it is best to travel here starting from July, since in June in some places there may be snow. The road starts in the village of Terekty and passes through the Mramorny mountain pass (1317 m), then the road will take you to Lake Markakol on the shore of which is the picturesque mountain village of Urunkhaika. Further along the Austrian road (Old Austrian Road) you need to overcome the Alatay mountain pass (1792 m) and the Burkhat mountain pass (2141 m) and go down to the valley of the Belaya Berel River. Then you need to move up the gorge along the river to the village of Berel and further up the gorge to the turn to the village of Karaayryk, here you will need to cross the bridge over the river, pass the village and move up until you reach Lake Yazevoye. You can set up a base camp on the lake and stop for two or three days to rest. On the lake you can visit the Yazevyi waterfall, which is located on the picturesque mountain River Yazevaya. The whole area belongs to the picturesque Kazakh Altai and is part of the Altai Mountains, which are located on the territory of the East Kazakhstan region in Kazakhstan.
