Taldykorgan (Taldy-Kurgan, Gavrilovka) is a cozy and green city, the administrative center of Zhetysu Region, located in the picturesque valley of the Karatal River, at the foot of the Zhetysu Alatau. It is not only the political and economic center of the region, but also the cultural heart of the southeast of Kazakhstan. The city has a special atmosphere of comfort and leisure, where the Soviet past, modern infrastructure and Kazakh traditions are combined. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century as the settlement of Gavrilovka, it eventually grew into a large city and in 1944 received the status of a regional center. The name "Taldykorgan" in translation from Kazakh means "willow" and "fortification", which reflects the natural wealth and historical significance of this place. Taldykorgan is not only an administrative but also a logistics center, from where it is convenient to go on trips around the Zhetysu region. From here, routes to the Altyn-Emel Park, the Charyn Canyon, the Kolsay Lakes, the Ili River and the ancient petroglyphs of Kyzyltas (Red Stone) begin.

The city of Taldykorgan is located 262 kilometers from the city of Almaty in the Karatal River valley, in the foothills of the Dzungarian Alatau at an altitude of 602 meters above sea level, Zhetysu region, Republic of Kazakhstan.
