Yuzhny Park (South Park) is one of the favorite vacation spots of Almaty residents, located in a residential area in the southern part of the city, near the intersection of Zharokov and Al-Farabi streets. The park is small and borders on its larger brother, the Botanical Garden of Almaty. Thanks to the abundance of trees, neat paths, and playgrounds, the park has become especially popular with families with children, the elderly, and those who enjoy morning runs accompanied by birdsong. The park has several playgrounds, a sports area with exercise equipment, as well as places for cycling and roller skating. In spring and summer, the park is filled with the scent of blooming trees and lilacs, and in autumn it turns into a landscape of golden and crimson shades.
History
Yuzhny Park (South Park) was founded in the 1980s, when new residential areas in the south of Almaty were actively developing. It was conceived as the "green heart" of the neighborhoods built along Al-Farabi Avenue. Initially, there was a small park in its place, but it was gradually expanded, young trees were planted, flower beds were laid out and pedestrian paths were laid.
Over time, the park has become an important part of urban life. In the early 2000s, it was improved: benches, lanterns, children's play areas were installed, and the first outdoor exercise equipment appeared. In the 2010s, a large-scale reconstruction took place here – the pavement of the paths was renewed, the territory was landscaped and playgrounds for recreation and sports were created.
Nature and atmosphere
Yuzhny Park (South) is a real oasis for residents of the southern districts of Almaty. Poplars, maples, firs, chestnuts and birches grow here, and squirrels and songbirds live on the lawns. The air here is cleaner than in the center, and the shade from the trees protects from the summer sun. In the evenings, there is a special atmosphere here – families walk with children, young people ride bicycles, elderly people sit on benches, enjoying the coolness and tranquility. The park seems to unite everyone who is looking for peace and quiet in a big city.
