History
The history of Barys Arena began in 2012 when it became obvious that the previous Kazakhstan sports palace did not meet the strict technical regulations of the KHL. The project was implemented by the IT Engineering S.A. architectural bureau. In the debut match in August 2015 Barys won against Metallurg Novokuznetsk and later the Gagarin Cup winner – SKA Saint Petersburg – was defeated on this ice.
Over the years of operation the arena has become a symbol of the revival of the capital's hockey. In addition to KHL matches world championships in the first division and major cultural events are held here. Barys Arena is a five-story giant with a capacity of 11,578 spectators.
