Information -
Shafik Chokin Chokinovich is a truly legendary personality in the scientific circles of Kazakhstan. The author of about 500 fundamental scientific works, he laid the theoretical and practical foundations for the development of the country's energy complex. Among his most significant works, monumental studies should be particularly noted: "Energy of Kazakhstan", "Scientific foundations of energy supply to agriculture in Kazakhstan" and "Fuel and energy balance of Kazakhstan". These works have become reference books for several generations of power engineers. In 1996, by Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, Shafiq Chokin was awarded the title of "Halyk Kaharmany" – the highest degree of distinction in our country. The installation of the monument in front of the building of the institute, which he founded himself, has a deep symbolic meaning, emphasizing the inextricable link between the scientist and his life's work.
The process of creating a monument to Shafik Chokin was carefully organized and included several important stages. The Akimat of Almaty has announced an open creative competition for the best sketch of the monument, providing an opportunity for all talented sculptors and artists of the country to offer their vision of the image of the great scientist. According to the results of the creative competition and based on the decision of the State Commission on Monuments and Monuments of the Republic of Kazakhstan, famous sculptors K. Zharylgapov and M. Azmagambetov were recognized as winners. It was their artistic concept that most fully and expressively embodied the image of Shafiq Chokin, a scientist, thinker and patriot of his country. The unveiling of the monument was not just a formal event, but a landmark event on a national scale. It demonstrated deep respect for Shafik Chokin's scientific legacy and recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of Kazakhstan's energy industry. The monument serves as a constant reminder of how one single-minded person can change the course of an entire country's history.
Today, the monument to Shafik Chokin is not just a sculptural composition, but a real symbol of scientific thought and engineering genius. Each element of the monument is carefully thought out and carries a deep meaning. The bronze figure of the scientist, captured in a moment of deep reflection, seems to embody science itself – the eternal search for truth and the pursuit of progress. This monument has become an important part of the architectural ensemble of Almaty, a place of pilgrimage for students, scientists and anyone interested in the history of Kazakh science. It serves as a bridge between generations, reminding young researchers of the high standards of scientific work laid down by Shafik Chokin. The monument also performs an important educational function. The numerous excursions that take place at its foot help preserve the memory of the outstanding scientist and popularize his scientific legacy among the general population.
Thus, the monument to Shafik Chokin is not just a tribute to a great scientist, but an important element of the cultural code of the nation, a symbol of the continuity of scientific traditions and a reminder that real science always serves the progress and well–being of the people.
