Architecture and monuments of Almaty city -
The monument to Akhmet Baitursynov is located at an altitude of 816 meters above sea level, where the steppe wind carries the ancient power of the earth, in the heart of the city of Almaty. He stands in the center of the square that bears his name, at the intersection of Baytursinova and Zhambyl streets, between the choreographic school and the ancient St. Nicholas Cathedral, like a bridge between the movement of the future and the eternity of the past. On November 16, 2022, Almaty froze in solemn silence: it was on this day that the monument to the great enlightener was unveiled. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev personally led the ceremony, reminding everyone of the great height of spirit and thought that Akhmet Baitursynov achieved, becoming a symbol of the awakening of the Kazakh people.
The five–meter-tall bronze figure is not just a statue. This is the embodiment of will, wisdom and an unshakable desire for freedom. A massive granite pedestal, like the Kazakh land itself, holds it confidently and firmly. Sculptors Aidos Burkitbayev and Timur Ermukhametov worked on this work, putting a particle of eternity into the image of Baitursynov. Akhmet Baitursynov Square, founded back in 1997, has long been a place where memory and modernity are intertwined in the living breath of the city. And now a monument stands above this corner, erected in honor of the 150th anniversary of the birth of a man whose life has become a fiery torch for the Kazakh language, literature and spirit.
Akhmet Baitursynov was not just a scientist and a reformer – he was the voice of the era, crying out for awakening through the years. His name sounds like a spell in the heart of the nation, and the monument reminds everyone passing by: the spirit of freedom is eternal, and the star of true heroes never goes out.

Information -
Akhmet Baitursynov is an educator, reformer, linguist, and founder of the Kazakh national script. He created the Kazakh alphabet based on Arabic graphics, thus laying the foundation for the development of Kazakh literature and science. As a journalist and editor, Baitursynov stood at the origins of the first Kazakh socio-political magazine "Kazakh", defending the ideas of freedom, national identity and the right to education for his people. During the years of severe trials, Akhmet remained adamant: he was not broken by persecution, exile, or prison. He fought not for personal well-being, but for the Kazakh people to find a voice, realize their power and their place in the history of the world.
Now his bronze gaze is directed into the distance, through time and space, as if reminding everyone who passes by: knowledge, dignity and freedom are eternal values worth fighting for.
Akhmet Baitursynov was and remains more than just a scientist. He is the living soul of the nation, the great builder of its words, spirit and destiny.
