History -

The history of the city of Akkol begins in the distant 1880, when the Cossack village of Alekseyevka was founded here. These lands were developed by Russian settlers who came here from the center of the empire in search of fertile fields and freedom. Later, Kazakh families began to move here, forming a special way of life - an interweaving of Cossack severity and Kazakh steppe latitude. During the Russian Empire and the first years of Soviet power, Alekseyevka was one of the agricultural centers. Here, arable farming and cattle breeding developed, mills, forges, and churches were built. People lived hard, but with faith in the future. In the 1930s, the village became the center of the district of the same name. During the Great Patriotic War, hundreds of men left for the front from here, many did not return, but their memory is alive in the names of streets and memorial plaques. Women and old people in the rear raised the harvest, providing the front with bread. In 1961, Alekseyevka received the status of a city, and a new name - Akkol in 1997, which in Kazakh means "White Lake". This name is associated with the beautiful Lake Akkol, which borders the city, the lake seems to shine on the horizon on sunny days. From that moment on, the city began to develop faster, new schools, enterprises, roads appeared.
