Fort Shevchenko is a city on the shore of the Caspian Sea, the settlement here was founded in 1846 as the Novopetrovskaya fortress. In 1857, the fortress was renamed Fort Alexandrovsky and in 1939 the city was renamed Fort Shevchenko.
