House of Officers in Almaty (House of the Army)

Excursion to the Memorial of Glory in the Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen -

Architecture of the city of Verny (Alma-Ata) -

The House of the Army (formerly the District House of Officers) is one of the most iconic buildings in the city, an architectural monument of the Soviet era and an important cultural center associated with the history of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan. Its construction began in the middle of the 20th century, when Alma-Ata was the capital of the Kazakh SSR and was actively developing as a military and administrative center of the republic. The building was built in 1978 and is located in the eastern part of the Park named after 28 Panfilov Guardsmen. The architecture of the House of Officers is designed in the style of Stalinist neoclassicism: monumental columns, strict symmetry of the facade, massive walls, rich decorative moldings. All this symbolizes the strength, stability and greatness of the army. The combination of classical forms with military severity makes it especially expressive. Next to the building is the "Glory Memorial" and the eternal flame. Also nearby is the Cathedral and the Ykylas Museum of Musical Instruments.
