Zheruyik Park in Astana: A Promised Land in the Center of the Capital

Where to walk with children in Astana on the right bank of the Ishim River -

A unique natural area with a rich history and an atmosphere of tranquility -

Zheruyik Park, whose name translates from Kazakh as "The Promised Land," is one of the most iconic and beloved vacation spots in Astana. Located in the Almaty district, this park has become a living embodiment of the dream of a fertile land, where a real forest oasis is spread among the steppes.

The idea for the park came from the first president of Kazakhstan, who personally planted the first tree here in 1998.

The official opening of "Zheruyik" took place only ten years later, in 2008. This time was necessary for nearly 10,000 young seedlings to grow strong and turn into a dense grove capable of giving citizens long-awaited coolness and fresh air. Today, the park occupies an impressive area of 21 hectares, representing a unique ecosystem of 11 species of trees, including pines, birches, poplars, and bird cherry.

For residents of the right bank, the park has become an indispensable place: young mothers with strollers walk here, athletes train, and lovers of beautiful landscapes hold photo sessions.

"Zheruyik" acquires a special charm in the autumn period, when the golden foliage in the rays of the setting sun creates a unique "blazing" palette that attracts professional photographers from all over the city.

Information

Zheruyik Park was designed as a zone for quiet and eco-friendly recreation. The total area of lawns here is an impressive 95,000 square meters, and the length of the forged fence surrounding this green area exceeds 3.5 kilometers. Thanks to the fact that active planting began back in the late 90s, today you can find truly tall and spreading trees here, which is a rarity for the young capital.

The park's infrastructure is designed for an active lifestyle: high-quality bicycle paths and winding pedestrian paths are laid throughout the territory. For the convenience of visitors, there are two modern toilets (at the central entrance and from Zhumabayev Avenue), and in the central part, there are points with street food, ice cream, and a cozy cafe-boutique. In winter, the park is transformed: an ice rink is flooded here, ice slides are built, and rental points for skates and tubes are opened.

Detailed description of the object

Monument to the 28 Panfilov Heroes: A majestic memorial opened in 2015 for the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. The center of the composition is a bronze figure of the Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Panfilov, 2.5 meters high, mounted on a pedestal. Nearby are granite slabs where the names of the soldiers who stopped the tank attack on the outskirts of Moscow are immortalized.

Sculptural composition "Bayterek": A unique symbol of the park, which should not be confused with the main monument of the capital. This is a fairy-tale tree of life, around which mythical two-horned pegasi soar, and four tiger-gryphons guard the peace. The sculpture embodies the idea of the cycle of life and the connection of times.

Children's play areas: Several playgrounds with safe tartan flooring are equipped in the park. A feature of the zones is that they are located right among the trees on small rises, which creates the feeling of playing in a real forest. In the summer season, trampoline towns and attractions also operate here.

Workout area: Located in the shady part of the park, which allows you to comfortably play sports even in the hot morning hours. The area is equipped with modern exercise machines and horizontal bars.

Architecture

The architectural style of Zheruyik Park combines monumentality and naturalness. The main entrance from Momyshuly Avenue is decorated with majestic arches and carved gates.

The layout of the park is radial-circular: numerous paths lead from the central square with the "Bayterek" to secluded corners of the grove. Small architectural forms, such as carved benches and classic-style lanterns, emphasize the park's status as one of the most well-maintained places in the city.

Legend and Conclusion

According to Kazakh folklore, the philosopher Asan Kaigy spent his whole life searching for "Zheruyik" – a land where the grass is always green, and people do not know want or war. Today's park has become a symbolic embodiment of this search.
Local residents believe that the tree planted here in 1998 by the first president has a special "pioneer" energy and brings luck in business to those who touch its bark.

"Zheruyik" remains a quiet haven where you can relax from the city noise while staying in the very center of the metropolis.
