Altyn Tobe is a city, an ancient settlement of the Turkestan region, preserved since the Middle Ages. The citadel of this ancient city is popularly called "Tortkultobe". The city is located on the top of a high hill, in a beautiful strategically important place with ditches and crevices on the sides. It was first investigated by archaeologist A. N. Podushkin in 1982. Later, in 1992, the Keless archaeological group of the South Kazakhstan Archaeological Expedition continued its research.

The town of Altyn-Tobe is located in the village of Karzhan, Kazygurt district of Turkestan region, Republic of Kazakhstan.

Information -

Altyn-Tobe is a high hill with a square appearance, surrounded by a deep moat. Area 180x160 m, height 13 - 15 m. The central part (citadel) is located in the southwest corner of the hill. The area is 70x50 m, the height is 4 m from the upper surface of the city. The gates are located opposite each other in the southeast and southwest. It is not known what the name of the city was in the Middle Ages, it was a prosperous city. During the excavations, several intact ceramic vessels, two jugs, two lids, and cups were found. Altyntobe is located along a branch of the Great Silk Road, researchers have established that the city existed between the 10th and 16th centuries.
