Karaspan (Karaspan-Tobe) is a medieval settlement dating from the VI-VIII centuries, it consists of a high hill with structures around, remnants of walls, rooms, moats, etc. The settlement was explored in 1960 and in 1972 by an expedition of the Shymkent Pedagogical Institute. The settlement was part of a network of fortified settlements, guard hills (posts). The area of the settlement could be several hectares, the height of the central part of the citadel is quite high, it was over 10 meters. The site of the walls surrounding the city is now a 1.5 m high hill, there were entrance gates on the western and eastern sides.

Information –
The city of Karaspan was inhabited by peasants, they were engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. During the excavations, ceramics were found here, according to the dating of which it was established that the city was inhabited in the 10th-17th centuries. Some researchers (E. I. Ageeva, G. I. Patsevich) consider the city of Karaspantobe to be one of the medieval cities of Karasaman. Here, according to Nizamaddin Shami and Sharaf al-Din Yazdi, in 1392 Amir Temir received the ambassadors of Toktamyss Khan. According to Hafiz Tanish, in 1581 there was a part of the army of Abdullah Khan and chariot caravans here.
