Information -

Botai culture is the culture of the tribes that inhabited Northern Kazakhstan during the Eneolithic era. The culture is named after the village of Botai, 1.5 km southeast of the village of Nikolskoye, Airtau district, North Kazakhstan region. An archaeological expedition of the North Kazakhstan University (1981-83, led by V.F. Seibert) carried out excavations; on the territory of a settlement with an area of 15 hectares, a site of 158 houses was excavated. They consist of several closed parts, the walls of which are connected to each other. Some had up to 30 houses. Agricultural tools are made from various stones, clay and bones. The tribes that created the Botai culture domesticated the horse. A large number of finds of stone knives, daggers, arrowheads and spears clearly shows the role of hunting in the life of society. At the same time, a collection of harpoons, needles, punches, amulets and decorations tells about different aspects of the economy. The formation of the Botai culture was influenced by the tribes that created the Atbasar Neolithic culture. The Botai culture belongs to the culture of the tribes that settled between the Zhaiyk and Irtysh rivers.
