Bartogay Reservoir (kazakh: Bartogay bөgeni) is a reservoir, a beautiful lake, with the purest water, one of the main natural attractions of the Almaty region. The reservoir was put into operation in 1986, construction of the dam began in 1983. The Bartogay Reservoir was created as part of an irrigation project to collect water, store it and use it for irrigation and other needs. The reservoir collects water in winter and spring and releases water for irrigation from June to September. Recreational fishing is allowed in the reservoir and downstream of the Chilik River at certain times of the year.

The Bartogay reservoir is located on the Chilik River, 194 kilometers from the city of Almaty, 10 kilometers from the village of Asysaga, Enbekshikazakh district, Almaty region, Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Bartogay reservoir is located in a beautiful place, surrounded by low picturesque mountains. The area around is a mountain desert. You can relax on the lake, camp, and in the summer you can swim in the reservoir. The water in the reservoir is quite cold, warming up in July and August. The Bartogay Reservoir is home to the following fish species: carp, crucian carp, carp, and trout. At the reservoir you can engage in sport fishing, catch and release, during the allotted time. The area of the Bartogay Reservoir has been inhabited by people since ancient times. The area is surrounded on all sides by mountains, which provides good protection from the wind. In ancient times there was arable land here, and traces of ancient canals were discovered here. There are many ancient mounds in Bartogay, made of stones, covered with earth and barely visible. The abundance of hills here is no coincidence; since time immemorial, this area has been attractive to people and was considered a sacred place. Rituals were performed there and holidays were celebrated. Since the reservoir is located far from any sources of pollution, the water in it remains very clean. The length of the reservoir is 6 kilometers, width 3 kilometers, maximum depth 25-30 meters. It is prohibited to litter or dump household waste into the reservoir; all garbage must be taken with you.
