Museum of Local Lore (Ust-Kamenogorsk)

Museums of the East Kazakhstan region

Traveling from the city of Astana to the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk

The East Kazakhstan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore was opened in 1915 in the building of the People's House. The museum stores over 160,000 exhibits; only 10,000 exhibits are presented to the public, since the museum’s area does not allow for all the exhibits to be presented. The main collection of the museum was collected by local enthusiasts over a fairly long period of time. The museum is represented by several halls: the hall of nature, the hall of the history of the Great Patriotic War, the hall of archeology, the hall of ethnography, the hall of culture, etc. The museum is the custodian of the largest and most informative archaeological collection (more than 70,000 items) among the museums of Kazakhstan. The ethnographic collection reliably and comprehensively documents the centuries-old history of the peoples of Eastern Kazakhstan. Documents and photographs of the 20s and 30s, real posters of those years, materials from participants in the Great Patriotic War.
