Information, history -
The city of Petropavlovsk was founded in 1752 as a military fortress during the policy of colonization of the Kazakh lands by Tsarist Russia. At first the city was a military outpost, then a city of Siberian Tatars (Turks) and became the main stronghold of Russia during the colonization of Northern and Central Kazakhstan. In 1838, the city became part of the Yesilsky district, and in 1868 it became part of the Akmola region and became a district city. After 1868, thanks to its location on the trade route of Siberia and Turkestan, Petropavlovsk became a major center of trade between Russia and Central Asia. Trade turnover in Petropavlovsk grew from year to year, trade was carried out between Russian merchants and Kazakh merchants. At the end of the 18th century, the city turned from a small settlement (forstadt) into a large trading center. The tsarist government promoted the development of trade in Petropavlovsk and opened a city public bank there (1871). In 1849, there were 7 oil factories, 7 tanneries, 4 soap factories, 17 brick factories, mills, etc. in the city. In 1912, there were about 600 trading establishments here. The construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway had a great influence on the further development of the city. If in the 19th century the city developed as a commercial and administrative center, then at the beginning of the 20th century it became one of the main centers of agriculture and industry. The city's economy was negatively impacted by World War I and the Civil War. In 1932-1936, the city led the construction of the city of Karaganda and became the main center for the construction of a large railway junction. During World War II, about 20 plants and factories transported from the western regions of the USSR contributed to the development of the city's economy. After the war, the city began to develop rapidly. Especially during the period of development of virgin lands and deposits, many enterprises were built, and the socio-economic, educational, cultural and educational spheres of the city developed rapidly. Currently, Petropavlovsk has become one of the largest industrial centers in Kazakhstan. There are 174 enterprises in the city.
