Numerous rivers that begin in the mountains supply fertile plains with water, contributing to the development of agriculture. The main river of the region is the Irtysh, which, together with its tributaries, feeds the surrounding lands and forms a unique landscape. Other interesting rivers of the region are the Bukhtarma River and the Belaya Berel River.
Lakes of Eastern Kazakhstan -
Eastern Kazakhstan is rich in lakes, among which a special place is occupied by Zaysan and Markakol. Lake Zaysan, one of the oldest in the world, has significantly increased after the construction of the Bukhtarma Hydroelectric Power Station, built on the Bukhtarma Reservoir.
