The observatory was founded in 1947 on the site of the Fesenkov Astrophysical Institute, which is located next to the observatory. The observatory and the institute were named in honor of Vasily Grigorievich Fesenkov, a Soviet astronomer, astrophysicist, professor, and honored scientist of the Kazakh SSR. This unique place is open to everyone interested in the stars and the mysteries of space. Thanks to the clean mountain air and minimal light pollution, there is a stunning view of the night sky.
