History, information

Temirtau was founded in 1945 on the basis of the former village of Samarkand. The construction of the city and its industrial facilities is associated with the period of development of the Karaganda coal basin. The coal industry needed electricity, so the construction of a waterworks on the Nura River, near the village of Samarkand with a population of 200 people, 30 kilometers from the city of Karaganda, began. The construction of the waterworks was completed in 3 years. In 1942, the first turbo generator was put into operation at KarGRES. During the difficult years of the war, the State Defense Committee decided to build a metallurgical plant near the city of Karaganda. On December 31, 1944, the Kazakh Metallurgical Plant became one of the operating enterprises.

Monument to the Temirtau soldiers who died in the Great Patriotic War.On the foundation of the monument there is a plate with the names of Temirtau residents and internationalist soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War. The monument was opened in 1974, the author is S. B. Nazaryan.

In 2000, a memorial monument was opened to the employees of the enterprise who died during the Great Patriotic War (on the eve of the 55th anniversary of Victory on the territory of KarGRES-1).

In 2001, the monument of Metallurgists was opened (author A. Bilyk, material - stainless steel and bronze).

In 2002, a memorial monument was opened for employees of the Department of Internal Affairs of the city of Temirtau who died in the line of duty (on the territory of the Department of Internal Affairs).
