Monuments to outstanding cultural figures of Kazakhstan -
The monument to Mukhtar Auezov is one of the most significant and revered places in Almaty, dedicated to the great Kazakhstani writer, playwright, scientist and thinker, author of the legendary epic novel "The Way of Abai". It has become a symbol of respect for Kazakh literature, for the national culture and for the man who elevated the word to the level of the spiritual heritage of the people.
The monument is installed in front of the building of the Mukhtar Auezov kazakh drama theater, which bears the name of the great writer. This place was not chosen by chance – it was the theater that became one of the centers of Auezov's creativity, where his plays were staged and his ideas were embodied. The monument is harmoniously integrated into the architecture of the square and has become an important part of the cultural ensemble of the city.
The history of the monument's creation
The monument was opened in 1980, the year when the theater celebrated its next anniversary, and was conceived as a symbol of gratitude to Mukhtar Auezov from the people of Kazakhstan. The author of the sculpture was Khakimzhan Nauryzbayev, one of the most famous sculptors of the country, who created images of Abai, Zhambyl and many other great personalities.
The architects sought not just to portray the writer, but to convey the greatness of his spirit, the power of reason and the gentleness of the human soul. The monument was made of bronze, mounted on a granite pedestal, and became part of an entire cultural space next to the theater, the Almaty Circus, and the Esentai River promenade.
Since its opening, the monument has become one of the symbols of Almaty. Ceremonies, festivals, and filming take place here, and every year on Auezov's birthday, flowers are laid at the monument, remembering the great writer, whose legacy continues to inspire millions.
Architecture and composition
The monument is made of bronze, its height is about 3.5 meters, and together with the pedestal it is more than 6 meters. Mukhtar Auezov is depicted sitting in deep thought, with a book in his hands. His face is calm but focused, as if he is thinking about the fate of the people and about the word that makes a person free.
The lines of the sculpture are smooth and harmonious, the figure of the writer is full of inner dignity. The inscription "Mukhtar Auezov" is engraved on the pedestal, and fir trees and flower beds are planted nearby, creating a cozy space for relaxation and reflection.
In the evening, the monument is illuminated by a soft light, and it seems as if the bronze figure comes to life, continuing to watch the theater, where his words are still heard today.
