Akyrtas is an ancient palace complex of the 8th-9th centuries, the most mysterious archaeological site in Kazakhstan, also considered a sacred and sacred place, located in a picturesque area of the Zhambyl region. The exact dating of this object is unknown, there is only an approximate dating, the opinions of scientists on this issue are divided, some researchers believe that Akyrtas is a very ancient structure, which dates back to the time BC. One of the researchers stated the construction time of the object in the first century BC. The Akyrtas Palace monument is the remains of an ancient structure lined with fairly large red stone blocks. The material for construction was local rock, which was mined near the complex.

The Akyrtas palace complex is located 40 kilometers from the city of Taraz, 488 kilometers from the city of Almaty, near the Kara-Arsha gorge, at the foot of the Kyrgyz Alatau mountains, Turar Ryskulovsky district, Zhambyl region, Republic of Kazakhstan.

Information -

Akyrtas was built in the shape of a square on top of a hill so that it could be seen from afar. Currently, the surviving walls are 160, 146 and 140 meters high. The thickness of the walls is 40x70x70 (80) cm, built from large stone blocks. The fortress has 4 entrances, gates, one gate is located in the north of the complex, three other gates are in the south. Residential buildings are a complex of service and utility premises built around a courtyard. According to researcher P.I. Akhirtas, this is an unfinished Buddhist monastery. French scientists have come to the conclusion that Akyrtas may be a monument of the 8th-11th centuries, since the construction project is similar to medieval buildings in Iraq and Syria. The study of the monument began in the 19th century. Orientalists, architects and archaeologists from all over the world devoted their work to this unique monument. The Akyrtas complex was first discovered by local historians and scientists V.A. Kallaur, P.I. Lerch, D.I. Ivanov, V.V. Bartold in 1936.

Archaeological excavations -

During the ongoing archaeological research on Akyrtas within the framework of the “Cultural Heritage” program, several modern archaeological and archaeological-architectural monuments were identified, documented, and comprehensively studied. The description is as follows: Akyrtas Palace is a monumental rectangular building, built from large blocks of red sandstone with a height of 1 to 1.5 m. The size of the building is 169x145 m. The building is oriented with its long sides along the north-south line. The main street connects the north and south entrances. Another street runs perpendicular to it from east to west. The streets divide the building into four parts, three of which consist of premises located around the courtyard, and one (northwest) is free from buildings. In the center of the entire building there is a courtyard, along the perimeter of which there are stone columns measuring 5x5 meters with bases. . The height of the exposed walls reaches 3 meters. The palace is a square building measuring 39x40.5 m, located 1 km southwest of the palace complex. The castle is oriented to the cardinal directions; there are round towers at the corners of the building.
