Information, history -

After the foundation of the city of Zharkent in 1882, the question of building a church on this site was raised. Pavel Beloyarov, a clergyman, helped in this endeavor. Pavel himself contributed several thousand rubles for the construction, but since these donations were not enough, the construction of the church was postponed. After the construction of the Zharkent Mosque had already begun in 1887, construction work on the Russian Orthodox Church began in parallel. After about five years of construction, the structure was completed in 1892. The church was consecrated on December 22, 1900.

Architecture -

The building of the Zharkent church is built of Tien Shan spruce wood on a limestone foundation. The exterior and interior walls are plastered. The floor plan corresponds to the shape of a cross. On the roof there is a larger main dome surrounded by four smaller domes at the corners of the structure. A bell tower is attached to the west side. A total of five domes and a bell tower have crosses made of gilded iron. The church contains the relics of the Holy Martyr Basil, a priest of Zharkent, who was shot in 1918 along with 14 other people.
