A tour of the Byki Kulzhabasy petroglyphs in the Zhambyl region
The Kuljabasy Mountains in the Zhambyl region are famous for their petroglyphs (ancient rock carvings). Tourists come here to see the images and the local natural beauty.
The petroglyphs were first studied here in 2001 because they were noticed and discovered too late. Scientists have determined that the carvings are very ancient, dating back to approximately the 12th century BC. Kuljabasy means "ridge crest" in Kazakh, and the place received its name from the mountains located here.
