Travel to Aktau from Almaty

Aktau (White Mountain) the city is located on the Mangyshlak peninsula on the shore of the Caspian Sea, there is a seaport in the city. Because of its importance to the nuclear industry, the city was established as a "closed city" in the late 1950s. From 1964 to 1991, the city was named Shevchenko (named after the 19th-century Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko). The port on the Caspian Sea, built in 1963, serves both the economy and passenger traffic. Among other things, there are ferry connections with Russia, Baku (Azerbaijan) and Iran.

Aktau is the base for a large part of the Kazakh fleet. This field has been expanding since 2001, as a result of which about 5,000 members of the Navy were admitted in 2010.
