The State Natural Botanical Reserve "Karakunuz Tract" was established in 1971 for the conservation and protection of animals and plants. The Karakunuz River flows through the tract, 520 species of plants grow in the Karakunuz tract, as well as such animal species as wild boar, roe deer, pheasant, partridge, hare and other animals live and are protected here.

The tract is located in the Zhambyl region in the mountains of the Trans-Ili Alatau, the mountainous part of the Karakunuzka River, the distance from the village of Kordai to the Karakunuz tract is 65 km, Kordai district.

On the territory of the "Karakunuz Tract" you can observe such animals as wild boar, wolf fox, badger, Siberian roe deer, marmot, sparrowhawk, quail, mallard, Asian keklik, pheasant. On the territory of the reserve there are 2 species of animals included in the Red Book of Kazakhstan: Indian porcupine and golden eagle. From the plants here you can wild grapes, maple, oak, walnut. The Red Book of Kazakhstan includes such species as Sivers apple tree, wild grapes, Tien Shan cherry, etc.
