Butakov Gorge is a picturesque mountain gorge, a natural landmark of the Ile-Alatau Park, a place for active recreation and spending time in the fresh air and nature near the city of Almaty. The gorge is located at altitudes from 1700 to 2900 meters above sea level. The gorge is home to the famous Butakovsky waterfalls, the first lower waterfall is 30 meters high, the second upper waterfall is 20 meters high. A mountain route runs through the gorge, along which you can reach both waterfalls. Be sure to follow the signs indicating the direction and distance to the waterfalls. The picturesque Butakovka River, which is the right tributary of the Big Almatinka River, flows through the gorge. The vegetation of the gorge is rich and diverse, Tien Shan spruce, juniper, sedge and barberry grow here. The gorge attracts lovers of active recreation, the area is unique and beautiful, the gorge is an excellent starting point for short and long hikes in the mountains around the city of Almaty.

When traveling in the mountains of the Butakov gorge, be sure to use the services of mountain guides who know all the trails and routes well. Guides can advise how to properly spend time in the mountains, what you need to take with you and how to dress. Also, when traveling in the mountains, be sure to monitor the weather, choose sunny days when there is no rain or snow. Try to travel through the mountains in the first half of the day, it is best to start your journey early in the morning, so that before lunch or after lunch you can already go down from the mountains, so that you are not caught in the mountains in the evening and night. It is not recommended to travel through the mountains at night.

The Butakov gorge is located in the Zailiyskiy Alatau mountains, 13 kilometers from the city of Almaty, Ile-Alatau Park, Medeu district, Almaty region, Republic of Kazakhstan.
