Ile-Alatau National Park - the national park was created in 1996 and covers an area of 200,000 hectares. The park is located in the mountains south of Almaty between the Turgen Gorge in the east and the Chemolgan River in the west. The national park borders on the Almaty Nature Reserve, which is located around Talgar Peak. The park was organized with the aim of protecting the beautiful landscapes of the Zailiyskiy Alatau, preserving flora and fauna, and developing tourism. The park covers the areas of Kaskelen, Prigorodsky, Turgen forestry, located on the territory of Karasai, Talgar, Enbekshikazak districts. The park is located at an altitude of 600 - 4540 m above sea level. The highest peaks are Konstitutsiya (4540 m) and 25-letiya Kazakhstana (4494 m). The largest glacier is Dmitrieva Glacier (area 17 km²). The rivers Turgen, Esik, Talgar, Maly and Bolshoi Almaty, Kargaly, Aksai, Kaskelen flow through the park.

Ile-Alatau Park is located in the mountains in the Almaty region, in the mountainous areas of the Big Almaty Gorge and Turgen Gorge and within the city of Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan.

Flora and fauna -
The landscape of Ile-Alatau Park includes forests, alpine meadows, glaciers and lakes, including Big Almaty Lake, which is located near the city of Almaty. Famous trees of the park include apricot, maple and apple. A total of 300 species of birds and animals have been recorded in Ile-Alatau National Park. The park is home to snow leopard, Central Asian lynx, Tien Shan brown bear, Central Asian marten, Siberian ibex, bearded vulture, golden vulture and eagle. Other famous bird species found in Ile-Alatau National Park include Himalayan woodpecker, Eurasian scops owl and Eurasian three-toed woodpecker. The flora of the park includes more than 1000 species of plants, more than 500 of which grow in deciduous forests and more than 400 in coniferous forests. 36 species of these plants are listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan.
