Boat trip on the Talas River -

The Talas River is a river in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, the length of the river is 661 kilometers, on the territory of Kazakhstan the length of the river is 453 kilometers. It mainly flows through the Bayzak, Talas, and Sarysu districts of the Zhambyl region. The river bed runs near the famous city of Taraz in the Zhambyl region. The river originates in Kyrgyzstan in the mountains at the confluence of the Karakol River and the Ushkosha River, emerging from the glaciers of the Kyrgyz Alatau and Talas Alatau. Downstream from the city of Taraz, the Talas River spreads into several branches (Shalki, Kodeli, Tasarik). The river's water is intensively used for agricultural irrigation, so that, depending on the amount of water carried, Talas only dries up about 100–200 km below the city of Taraz in the Moyynkum Desert. Several hydroelectric power stations were built on the river, such as Talas, Temirbek, Zheimbet and Uyuk. Near the modern city of Taraz in 751, during the Battle of Talas (named after this river), the forces of the Abbasid Caliphate defeated the Chinese invaders, blocking the Tang dynasty's expansion to the west.
