Mountain Hiking and Trekking along the Uzungargaly River -

The Uzungargaly River flows through a picturesque mountain gorge and originates in the Zaili Alatau Mountains. The river is quite large, turbulent, and wide. In winter, there is little water here, and part of the river is covered with ice. In summer, it is very green and the river is full of water. The water changes color from morning to night, turning blue or green depending on the light. If you get closer, the water is clear. The river is safe to drink.

How to get there and visit -

The river is located in the Almaty region, Zhambyl district. From Almaty to the start of the hike is approximately 40 kilometers. Head southwest to the village of Kaskelen. Then head into the Uzungargaly River Gorge, the end point of the forester's station. Here, you need to check in and say at the entrance that you are going for a walk to Uzungargaly Waterfall.

Tourist Information

The Uzungargaly Gorge and River are very popular among local tourists. The route is not difficult. The elevation ranges from 500 to 1,600 meters above sea level. The maximum altitude of the mountains in the gorge is 4,300 meters. The upper reaches contain nine glaciers, each up to 2 km long.
