Zhezkazgan Regional Museum of Local History was established on May 10, 1978 by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR on the basis of the historical and Production Museum of the Zhezkazgan Mining and Metallurgical Combine. On July 4, 1997, due to the abolition of the Zhezkazgan region, the museum was renamed the Historical and Archaeological Museum. The main directions of the museum's work are research, accumulative, registration and conservation, exposition and propaganda work.
