Kostanay Regional Museum of History and Local Lore is a methodological center, cultural and scientific institution for all state and public museums. The collection of the current museum fund includes more than 107 thousand museum items, including about 65 thousand items from the main fund. One of the most important departments on which all the work of the museum is based is the accounting and storage department. The main work, such as the presentation of the museum collection, the creation of new exhibitions and temporary exhibitions, is assigned to three important exhibition departments: the historical and exhibition sector, the natural sector, and the department of painting and graphics.

The Kostanay Regional Museum of History and Local Lore is engaged in cultural and educational activities, this activity of the museum is very important in modern conditions, therefore the department of scientific, educational and excursion and public work is of particular importance in the structure of the museum. The museum provides advisory and practical assistance to state and public museums in the region, paying special attention to newly created museums. The coordinator of this work is the department of scientific and methodological works. The photo laboratory plays a special role in servicing the museum. Transferring the museum collection into a digital system, restoring unique ancient documents, preparing photographs for an exhibition, photographing natural objects, living conditions in the region, the activities of the cultural department of the akimat of the Kostanay region and the museum, samples of museum publications - all this is the responsibility of the museum’s photo archive custodian and photographer. The work of the museum is greatly assisted by a closed scientific library with a collection of 5,000 books on the topics of history, local history, natural history, reference and methodological literature.
