Parks and recreation in Ust-Kamenogorsk –
Where to walk and relax in Ust-Kamenogorsk –
Zhambyl Zhabayev Park – was opened in 1899, in 1946 the park was named after the Kazakh poet Zhambyl Zhabayev. Initially, there was a large urban market on the site of the park, where people sold various kinds of goods such as wood, livestock, etc. The planting of trees in the city garden was completed in 1902, the garden is surrounded by a wooden fence. Later, during the Soviet era, the garden was expanded to the Yubileyny cinema. The Park was defined as a cultural and educational enterprise, on the basis of which it was planned to conduct scientific and practical work, student and school practices. In 2002, it was transferred to the East Kazakhstan Regional Museum. For 5 years, the administration has carried out a set of forestry measures, which in itself can serve as a reason to say that the park has been cleaned and restored. In all 6 years, the number of tree varieties has increased 4 times, and in 2008 there were already 67 different types of trees and shrubs among the trees. The entire territory of the park (except the zoo) was plowed and sown with 4.3 hectares of lawn grass, mainly fescue. All sidewalks with an area of 9,500 square meters were reconstructed, and decorative bricks were laid instead of asphalt. In 2006, the park presented its unique landscape with beautiful clearings, winding roads and picturesque places to relax and spend time.
