The monument to Raiymbek Batyr is one of the most significant monuments of the city, symbolizing the strength, valor and indomitable spirit of the Kazakh people. The monument was erected in 2012 in the northern part of Almaty, during the period of the revival of national identity, and quickly became one of the most recognizable symbols of the city. Raiymbek batyr is not just a historical figure, but a real national hero, one of the leaders in the struggle of the Kazakh people against the Dzungarian conquerors in the XVIII century. His name is fanned by legends of courage and strategic talent.

Raiymbek participated in many battles against the Dzungars and always proved himself to be a brave warrior and a wise strategist. His achievements were not only in military victories, but also in uniting clans and tribes for the sake of a common struggle. The people considered him the protector and patron of Zhetysu.

Description of the monument

Architecturally, the monument is made in the style of monumental sculpture, symbolizing the heroic appearance of a warrior. Raiymbek is depicted riding a horse, in his right hand he holds a spear pointing to the sky, in his left hand a warrior holds a battle shield and clutches the reins of a horse. Batyr is depicted in battle armor and a helmet on his head, ready at any moment to defend his native land. His horse is depicted in rapid motion, which emphasizes the dynamics and martial spirit. The height of the huge granite pedestal, together with the rider on horseback, reaches 12 meters, and the sculpture itself is cast in bronze. The pedestal is decorated with red granite, which gives the monument grandeur and stability.

The authors of the monument: sculptor Yedige Rakhmadiev, designer Igor Polyakov, architect Vladimir Nemchikov depicted batyr not in the midst of battle, but at the moment of eternal watch and his military aspirations riding on a horse. Raiymbek sits proudly on a mighty horse, his gaze is directed into the distance, from where danger has been coming for centuries. This pose does not symbolize war, but readiness to defend the native land, calm confidence and inviolability.

Who is Raiymbek batyr: life and exploits

Raiymbek Batyr (1705-1785) was a national hero, warrior, liberator and defender of the Kazakh lands from the Dzungarian invaders. His name is inextricably linked with the history of the struggle for independence and the preservation of the ancestral land.

Raiymbek batyr was born in 1705 in Zhetysu, in the family of Khan Nurmambet. From an early age, he showed remarkable strength, courage and military talent. His name first appeared during the time of the brutal Dzungarian raids, which went down in history as the period of "Aktaban shubyryndy" ("Years of Great Disaster"). The people were experiencing terrible losses, and it was then that such heroes as Abylai Khan, Kabanbai Batyr, Bugembai batyr and young Raiymbek batyr came to the fore.

At the age of just 17, Raiymbek showed outstanding heroism. Legends say that in one of the battles he unexpectedly broke ahead, was the first to attack and defeated the enemies, which inspired the Kazakh army to victory. After that, he was recognized as a batyr, and his name became a symbol of courage. The spiritual side was of particular importance in his work. Raiymbek possessed charisma, wisdom and, as his contemporaries said, a special gift of foresight. Words of instruction are attributed to him, which have been preserved in the oral tradition and are still passed down among the people.

Over time, the name of Raiymbek became inextricably linked not only with military prowess, but also with spiritual strength. It is believed that he had a blessing from above, and even after his death his grave became a place of pilgrimage. People constantly gather at the mausoleum of Raiymbek in Almaty to offer prayers and ask for blessings.

Raiymbek Batyr lived in an era when the fate of the Kazakh lands hung in the balance. His bravery and dedication helped to preserve the unity of the people. In Kazakh history, he stands alongside the greatest defenders of the Fatherland.
