Family Park is one of the most famous and beloved recreation parks in Almaty, located in the west of the city, along Ulugbek Street. The Park is one of the three main amusement parks in the city. The other two parks are Gorky Central Park of Culture and Recreation, which is located in the eastern part of the city, and Fantasy World Park, which is located in the central part of the city next to the Central Stadium.
Family Park is not just a park, but a whole world of entertainment: here you can ride the Ferris wheel, ride the carousels, visit the petting zoo, or just enjoy a picnic on the grass. Playgrounds and a mini train are available for children, while recreation areas, cafes and a stage where concerts and city celebrations often take place are available for adults.
History
The Park was opened in 1990 and was originally called the 50th Anniversary of October Park. In Soviet times, a decommissioned IL-86 aircraft with a ramp was installed on the territory of the park, it was possible to enter and sit in the pilots' seat in the cockpit. Over time, the plane was removed from the park, and the park itself underwent many changes and reconstructions, turning into a modern entertainment center called Family Park. The main idea of its renovation was to create a place where whole families could relax, from toddlers to the elderly.
Over time, the park has become an integral part of the cultural and social life of Almaty. City events, festivals, charity events and fairs are held here. Many Almaty residents have been coming here for generations – someone rode on a swing here for the first time as a child, and now they bring their own children and grandchildren.
Architecture and layout
The Park occupies a large area, decorated in the form of spacious walking alleys surrounded by trees and flower beds. There is a water park in the center, which is open in the summer, and around it there are recreation areas, attractions and cafe areas. The atmosphere is created by arches, wooden gazebos and sculptures of fairy-tale characters, which children especially like. There is an exhibition of Soviet military equipment in the park, which children really like. There are also go-karts, roller coasters, bowling, a Ferris wheel and a small zoo.
The modern pavilions and entertainment areas are decorated in bright colors, which gives the park a festive and cheerful look. At night, the illumination turns on – the paths, trees and attractions shine with lights, creating a feeling of magic.

There are two entrances to the park, one is located on Ulugbek Street (43°13'41"N 76°51'10"E), the second entrance is located on Abai Avenue (43°13'26"N 76°51'28"E) a little further west than Pravda Street.
Getting to Family Park is very easy from anywhere in the city: taking the subway is the fastest way. Get off at Saryarka station and you will find yourself just 50 steps from the main entrance to the park.
You need to take a bus or trolleybus to the Saryarka bus stop. Buses run here № 55, 57, 72, 92, 104, 109, 118 and trolleybuses No. 5, 25. From the bus stop – a few minutes on foot.
Legend and atmosphere
There is a good legend among visitors that the Family Park site was once home to an old garden where lovers met under blooming apple trees. They say that if you walk along one of the alleys of Pakra, holding the hand of a loved one, then the relationship will be long and strong. That is why many newlyweds come here for a walk on their wedding day, considering it a good sign.
