Lake Zhukey - silence among the endless expanses

Kokshetau lakes in Burabay Park -

Fishing on Zhukey lake in Borovoe -

Lake Zhukey (Jockey) is a beautiful salt lake, hidden from view and devoid of the noise of tourist routes, the lake is a real pearl of the Burabay National Park, located next to the Kokshetau lakes. There is no fuss here, peace reigns here. Only water, sky and endless waves of grass swaying in the wind. The lake is small in size, but this is where its magic lies. It seems to whisper to those who seek solitude and spiritual recharge. The waters of the lake are transparent, the bottom is sandy, the shores are surrounded by sandy beaches with small trees in the shade of which you can hide from the sun. In the mornings, a light fog rises over the surface of the lake - as if nature carefully covers the lake with a veil of silence. The lake is rich in fish, which attracts fishermen here; in winter, ice fishing is popular on the lake. In summer, the water in the lake warms up to +24 degrees, which makes it popular for swimming. Near the lake there are other interesting and beautiful lakes such as: Lake Borovoe, Lake Shchuchye, Lake Big Chebachye, Lake Small Chebachye, Lake Zerenda, Lake Imantau, Lake Kopa and Lake Shalkar.

Information -

The shores of Lake Zhukey are soft slopes and steppe expanses covered with wildflowers and fragrant grass. In the spring, ducks and herons fly here, and the air is filled with the smell of purity and freedom. Sometimes you can see herds of horses grazing nearby, as if they came from Kazakh legends. On the shore of the lake there are such villages as the village of Zhukei, the village of Karlovka and the village of Kyzyluyum. The Sarymsakty River flows into and out of the lake. This place is perfect for those who love tents, fires, leisurely walks and reflections in silence. You don’t need wi-fi here – here the connection with nature catches your heart. The lake is located 30 kilometers from the city of Kokshetau (Kokchetav). Locals like to tell the legend that the lake got its name from the word “zhukei” – this is what they used to call lonely wanderers who found shelter here. Other versions associate the name of the lake with Turkic roots meaning “quiet place”. One way or another, Lake Zhukei has preserved its pristine beauty for centuries, remaining less popular than neighboring Borovoe, but no less picturesque.
Lake Zhukei, on the one hand, is surrounded by a beautiful sandy wild beach, here you can sunbathe, spend time and relax. There is no tourist infrastructure on the lake, the lake is absolutely wild, here you can set up your camp, put up a tent and stay overnight. It is necessary to maintain order on the lake, clean up after yourself. The area of the lake is 19.3 km2, length 5.5 km, width 4.6 km, depth 1.5-1.8 m. The west and south of the lake are steep, the rest of the banks are flat, gentle, the water in the lake is salty.
Lake Zhukei is not just a lake. It is a meeting with yourself, with nature, with that very Kazakhstan that lives in us - strong, calm and real.
