Abay region is the youngest administrative unit of Kazakhstan, formed in 2022. This region, rich in natural, historical and cultural attractions, is becoming increasingly popular for travelers and tourists. The administrative center of the region is the city of Semey, known for its architectural monuments, cultural heritage and connection with the great Kazakh poet and philosopher Abay Kunanbayev. The region borders Zhetysu in the south, Pavlodar in the northwest, Karaganda in the west, East Kazakhstan in the northeast. In the southeast it neighbors with China, and in the north - with Russia.

History -

The Abay region has a rich history dating back to the 19th century, when this territory was inhabited by representatives of the Middle Zhuz, mainly the Naiman tribe. From 1939 to 1997, the region was part of the Semipalatinsk region, the administrative center of which was Semey. The Semipalatinsk region was created by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1939, but in 1997 it was abolished, and its territories were transferred to the East Kazakhstan region. A new page in the history of the region was opened by the reform of 2022. On March 16, 2022, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed to restore a separate region in his Address to the Nation. Already on June 8, 2022, by the Decree of the President, the Abay region was formed, which included the districts of the former Semipalatinsk region.

The Abay region is famous for its unique landscapes. The region is located in the steppe and mountain zone, and its territory includes rivers, lakes and picturesque plains. Travelers are attracted by ancient burial mounds, historical monuments, as well as such natural gems as the Semey Ormany National Park - the largest forest in the country, where you can find rare animals and plants. The cultural heritage of the region is associated with the name of Abay Kunanbayev, who was born and worked on this land. The Abay Memorial Complex in Semey is one of the most important cultural sites.

Yenlik-Kebek Mausoleum -

Yenlik-Kebek Mausoleum is located near the village of Abraly. This place perpetuates the tragic love story of two young people - Yenlik and Kebek, who became the Kazakh Romeo and Juliet. Legend has it that their feelings collided with social and clan barriers, which led to a tragic ending. The mausoleum is a symbol of the purity of love and defiance of social prejudices.

Abay Mausoleum -

The mausoleum of Abay Kunanbayev - the great poet, philosopher and reformer of Kazakh culture, is located in the Zhidebay tract, not far from the city of Semey. The complex includes the mausoleum itself, a museum, and a memorial area. This is a place of attraction for Abai's admirers, where one can better understand his contribution to Kazakh culture and history.

Mausoleum of Ulzhan and Zere in Zhidebai -

Next to the Abai Mausoleum is the burial place of his mother Ulzhan and grandmother Zere, women who played an important role in the poet's upbringing. This place allows one to understand the roots and origins of Abai's spiritual heritage, his family connection with the culture and traditions of the Kazakh people.

Mazar of Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu -

This mausoleum is located near Semipalatinsk (now Semey) and is associated with another famous legend about love - the story of Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu. The legend tells of the tragic fate of two lovers, their struggle for love and the unfair end of their lives. The mazar is one of the oldest architectural monuments in the region and symbolizes loyalty and devotion.
