Abai region is a region in the east of Kazakhstan, formed in 2022, it is the youngest region in Kazakhstan. The region is rich in its natural and architectural attractions, it is interesting to travel here. The administrative center is the city of Semey. Abai region borders Zhetysu in the south, Pavlodar in the northwest, Karaganda in the West, East Kazakhstan in the northeast, the People's Republic of China in the southeast, and the Russian Federation in the north.

History -

In the 19th century, the Abai region was inhabited by the clans of the Middle Zhuz Naiman (Bura, Tauke, Karatai, Karakerei, Matai, Sadyr, Tereistanbal, Aknaiman, Baizhigit, Zhumyk, Karaulzhasak, Syban, Argyn, Basentiin, Karakesek). In 1939-1997, the administrative center in this region was the Semipalatinsk region. The Semipalatinsk region was formed by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 14, 1939 and abolished by the decree of N.Nazarbayev of May 3, 1997, the territory is included in the East Kazakhstan region. On March 16, 2022, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a Message to the people of Kazakhstan at a joint session of the chambers of Parliament, in which he proposed to create the Abai district. On June 8, 2022, by the Decree of the President of Kazakhstan dated May 4, 2022, the region was formed, which included the districts that existed before 1997 as part of the former Semipalatinsk region.
