The Merke village is a picturesque village on the banks of the Merke River in the foothills of the Merke Mountains, the altitude at which the village is located is 702 meters above sea level. The village was founded in the Middle Ages; it was a large trading center on the Great Silk Road in the 6th-8th centuries. In the center of the village there are still preserved remains of the ancient castle and settlement of Merke from the 8th century, which is a monument of ancient architecture and is open to the public. In 1905, the first school was opened in Merka, from which veterans of the country came out - Turar Ryskulov, Kabylbek Sarymoldaev and others. The village has 2 high schools, a vocational school, a library, a cultural center, a museum, a stadium, the Merke sanatorium, and a central regional hospital. The Taraz-Almaty, Taraz-Bishkek highways and the Taraz-Bishkek railway pass through the village, and the village of Merke is the Merke railway station.
