One-day mountain hike to the Gorelnik waterfalls -
Gorelnik is a picturesque mountain gorge in the mountains of Almaty city next to the Small Almaty gorge. The gorge is easily accessible, the Gorelnik River flows through the gorge, which is a tributary of the Malaya Almatinka River. Also, in the gorge there are famous Gorelnik waterfalls, there are two waterfalls in total, both waterfalls are located in the upper reaches of the gorge. The waterfalls are the main attraction of the gorge, and outdoor enthusiasts usually make a mountain hike to the waterfalls while visiting the gorge. A mountain route runs through the gorge, this route is very popular, the trail begins next to the Gorelnik thermal water source just above the Medeo sports complex behind the Medeu mudflow protection dam. Above the waterfalls along the gorge there is another popular place, the Eagle's Nest, which is also reached by a mountain trail.
To visit the Gorelnik gorge, you usually get to Medeo by car or bus and then walk, but to do this you will need to climb the stairs on the dam. You can use the services of an electric taxi to get directly to the Gorelnik gorge and start your journey from there. Cars with an internal combustion engine are prohibited from going up the road above Medeo. Electric taxis are located next to the Medeu skating rink. There is also an eco-bus between Medeo and the high-mountain base Shimbulak, the ticket price is 500 tenge, be sure to warn the driver that you need to stop at the Gorelnik stop near the forester's house. When traveling along mountain routes, be sure to use the services of certified mountain guides, they will prepare you for the mountain hike and safely lead you along the route.
